Men In Tech

Yet I'm not that guy - even though I'm 6'3 and workout a lot (and some say I look the part) - I'm a programmer and I work in an industry dominated by women who can't get passed the idea that I'm a programmer and I'm hot (I've overheard many of the moms at our playground call me a FILF).

Mindy Kaling: “Flick Chicks”

I regard romantic comedies as a subgenre of sci-fi, in which the world operates according to different rules than my regular human world. For me, there is no difference between Ripley from “Alien” and any Katherine Heigl character. They are equally implausible. They’re all participating in a similar level of fakey razzle-dazzle, and I enjoy every second of it.

Stop Telling Women To Do Startups

Whoever started the TED Women’s conference is pathetic. Which would you rather say you spoke at? TED? Or the TED Ghetto?

Any article taking a stance in the “women in tech” debate is guaranteed to provoke the accusations of sexism from the other side. This one is no exception. By now I should have learned to avoid paying any attention to this subject.

Professor Says Michael Arrington Lives In An Ivory Tower (TCTV)

Last night, hundreds of UC Berkeley students like myself sat in a packed auditorium to hear Michael Arrington speak with visiting Berkeley scholar, entrepreneur, and TechCrunch contributor, Professor Vivek Wadhwa. What was expected to be a mild discussion turned into a heated debate. Wadhwa firmly disagreed with Arrington on key topics on the agenda for the night such as the worth of a college education and, you guessed it, women in tech.

Arrington on education, women in tech and AngelGate.

John Graham-Cumming: An appeal for unremarkable women

My entire team of 12 is all men, and in the last 12 months we've interviewed two women. Looking into all the candidates who've sent in an application, men overwhelm women with a ratio of 24:1. Even if we just hired people randomnly the chance of hiring a woman would be tiny.

I find this situation tragic.

I happen to interview several dozens software engineers and only two of them were women (eventually not hired). Interestingly, recent podcast from Scott Hanselman tries to make a point that there's much more equality in Muslim countries, like Egypt.
