Exercise and longevity: Worth all the sweat

Dr Levine and her team were testing a theory that exercise works its magic, at least in part, by promoting autophagy. This process, whose name is derived from the Greek for “self-eating”, is a mechanism by which surplus, worn-out or malformed proteins and other cellular components are broken up for scrap and recycled.

Why exactly is exercise good for you.

Swimming From Cuba to Key West, Without Leaving the Water

Still, her doctor worries about hydration, starvation and keeping her body warm in the water. The ocean must be at least 86 degrees, which sounds warm unless a person is in it for 60 hours.

61 year old Diana Nyad is getting ready for 60 hour long swim from Cuba to Florida. It's hard to imagine that anyone could possibly pull it off. There's also a great interview with this woman on the Science Times podcast.

Stefaan Engels completes 365 marathons in 365 days

Engels adds another entry into the Guinness Book of World Records. His 20 Iron Man triathlons in a single year earned the record in 2008.

In London, Joggers Run Errands for the Isolated and Immobile
