In London, Joggers Run Errands for the Isolated and Immobile

Lots of people jog for exercise. And as long as you're going for a run, why not run an errand for someone who needs the help at the same time? That's the idea behind The Good Gym, an organization that matches runners with less mobile people in their neighborhood who need groceries, other goods, or just some kindness and human contact.

Life Hack - The 30/30 Minute Work Cycle Feels Like Magic

You might think it’s crazy and stupid, but it works for me,” he said. “I sit at my desk and work for 30 minutes without distraction, completely absorbed in my work. Then, after the 30 minutes are up, I drop whatever I’m doing and go do something fun for 30 minutes. During this relaxation time, I don’t think about work at all - I play games, write, whatever, but no work. After 30 minutes, I go back to my desk, rinse and repeat.”

Aaaah... Life hacks by high school kids.

Living Efficiently

Every once in a while, someone posts an article on getting things done and managing your time on Hacker News. I know because I keep track of them. I immediately think, 'recovering procrastinator'.

The reason why I think this happens is that one of first things an IT geek does when he puts order to his life and starts getting things done is... getting his personal website done and writing about how he did it. That is true for me also.

Yet another productivity article, but this one has an interesting conclusion: living efficiently in the end means getting rid of lots of nice things. So is it worth it?

This One Goes to Eleven (and Up)

I just couldn’t square the idea of the uninhibited woman that I wanted Thuy to grow up to be with the daily lesson I’d be giving her in suppressing one’s dreams. And I just didn’t think I’d be able to hide any of those feelings from her, no matter how brave a face I could put on.

The pros and cons of 'fuck you' money.

My luck changed somewhere in '95, I put two unrelated pieces of software together and called it something new, since then the jackpot has continued to pay out. It's really weird because on a technical level is was probably the most insignificant thing I ever did, but that's fate.

15 years ago a man gets a steady source of reasonable passive income. He shares his experiences. Sounds tempting.

Why morning people rule the world

Christopher Coleridge, the founder of V Water, the fast-growing vitamin-enhanced water brand, has a different view on the advantages of morning-ness. “Morning is always the best time to get people to make decisions because people are full of optimism in the morning. By 9am, nothing really can go wrong. You're full of hope. By 4pm, at least six annoying things will have happened, so by the evening you're slightly annoyed and frustrated. Fortunately, you then have the rest of the evening to pick yourself up.

Why people who get up earlier are more likely to be successful. Rubbish science.

After 15 years of practice...

I saw a Since 14, I was determined to be a great singer. But my pitch was bad, my tone was bad, and everyone said I was just not a singer.

Another simple, almost cliché, story from Derek Sivers. Nevertheless, I love his stories.

Become a morning person. How to end insomnia for $520.99

I've bought virtually every gadget out there and seen lots and lots of doctors. After years and years of struggling with this problem, I actually have a fairly normal sleep pattern now.

Here's how I did it:

  1. Avoid bad light at night
  2. Get bright light in the morning

Sounds reasonable. I'm going to give it a try.

Lightweight lifestyle

Today we took our biggest step. We canceled the insurance on our house and its contents. It’s not that we could easily afford to rebuild a house this big and replace all its contents. It’s just that we wouldn’t need to. We feel we could live, even in our modern culture, in a much smaller house with drastically fewer possessions.

How much stuff do you really need? Probably less than you posses.
